“Suck my dick.”

Adele‘s short yet striking answer to one of David Bowie‘s producers set the venue on fire at a recent concert when she took a moment to address the producer’s comments on her voice and whether or not it’s really hers that listeners hear when they play her songs.

This past Wednesday, producer Tony Visconti raised the question of whether or not it is actually Adele’s natural voice we hear on the singer’s records when he stated, “We know Adele has a great voice but it’s even questionable if that is actually her voice or how much has been manipulated. We don’t know.” Known for his work with the late David Bowie, Visconti worked on everything from the late star’s eponymous album in 1969 to his final album Blackstar.

Visconti began his critique with an overall dismissal of current pop music, “You turn the radio on and it’s fluff, you are listening to 90% computerised voices. There’s a sound to pop now that is so perfect it’s boring, because everything is fixed.” He then took the conversation to Adele and her voice before stating that he is searching for “virtuosos like Hendrix, Cobain and Bowie.”

The richest female musician to come out of the UK did not take lightly to these comments and in the video at the top of the page you can hear her quick 30 second response to the critique.
