Donald Glover and his Childish Gambino persona has been missing from the world of music for a while now, with Glover choosing to focus a bit more on his acting career. Of particular note is the launch of Glover’s new show Atlanta, which he created and stars in. Atlanta isn’t coming until September unfortunately, but it’s good to know we’ll see more of Glover’s comedic side in the absence of new Gambino music at the very least.
Atlanta isn’t the only project he’s got on the horizon, though, as Deadline is reporting that Glover is joining the cast of the upcoming Spider-Man film, Spider-Man: Homecoming. When the question of the who the next Spider-Man was going to be initially came up years ago, many were campaigning to have Glover take on the titular role. Spider-Man: Homecoming will not star Glover as the beloved superhero, however, as newcomer Tom Holland will be donning the Spidey suit.
Still, it feels like a story coming full circle, even if the outcome isn’t quite as desirable as some had hoped. Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures have yet to clarify his role in the film, but hopefully that won’t be the case for too much longer and we’ll know what to expect when the movie comes out next year.
