It’s been nearly a year since Future released DS2. In the time since it’s release last July, Future has been on a hot streak. He released What A Time To Be Alive with Drake in September, Purple Reign in January, and EVOL in February, and yet DS2 continues to sound as great as it did the day it came out.
Ahead of the album’s anniversary, the RIAA has announced that DS2 has officially gone platinum. This is technically Future’s second platinum certification, considering What A Time To Be Alive went platinum last year. However, this would be Future’s first solo album to earn this certification. This milestone also marks just the second rap album out of Atlanta to reach platinum status, following 2 Chainz’s 2013 release, Based on a T.R.U. Story.
Although, Future had a few struggles and technical difficulties with his recent performances at The Roots Picnic and Hot 97’s Summer Jam, this accomplishment proves that his music is still in high demand. Luckily, fans will have more chances to catch Future performing hits from DS2, as well as his other albums, later this year on the Summer Sixteen tour with Drake.
