UPDATE 6/17/16: Grimes took to Twitter to address the show, and promised to explain what happened once she “can safely and legally do so.”
She also assured a fan it didn’t mean cancelled tour dates, and decried the trolls speculating about her mental health.
And Grimes lightened the mood considerably by announcing she has a song called “Medieval Warfare” on the Suicide Squad soundtrack. You can read the tweets below.
A Grimes show is typically filled with dancing, good vibes, and electric energy, but something was off last night. On Wednesday, June 15, Grimes was opening for Florence + The Machine at Barclays Center in New York, but she cut her set short and walked off stage in the middle of “World Princess.”
Before she started the song, Grimes explained to the audience: “We just had a really disturbing thing happen to us today, so I’m sorry if my voice is shaking. It’s just a kind of fucked day. There’s a lot of fucked things going on in general and on the news and everything. I apologize, I’m having a lot of trouble keeping it together right now.”
On Reddit, one attendee explained it like this:
Grimes’ reps have declined to make any comments on the situation.
