Just yesterday, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that Kevin Hart was attached to an upcoming action-comedy film titled Run the Jewels. Written by writing duo Alex Blagg and Neel Shah, who have writing credits on Workaholics among other shows and films, the upcoming film centers around a group of failed rappers who come up with a plan to rob one of hip-hop’s biggest stars. Run the Jewels certainly makes sense as a title, then, but what doesn’t make sense, is how neither members of hip-hop duo Run The Jewels were consulted beforehand.

Taking to Twitter, El-P said, “Excuse me while I go starve a savage pack of lawyers for 7 days.” The film, which is unrelated to the duo outside of the title, is being produced by Universal. Jason DeMarco, founder of Williams Street Records and the guy who brought Killer Mike and El-P together, also tweeted about the situation, saying, “If you’re going to make a movie and you decide to call it ‘Run The Jewels’ why would you not at least CALL THE BAND?”

El-P responded to DeMarco’s tweet, saying, “It’s cool we’ll be calling them.” No word on what actions will be taken if any at this point, but here’s hoping it doesn’t have too big of an impact on Run The Jewels going forward. El-P and Killer Mike remain hopeful that the third Run The Jewels album will release before the end of the year.
