Earlier this month, Vic Mensa released his latest project, There’s Alot Going On. Along with sharing new music, Mensa partnered up with Respect My Vote to share an important message with his listeners. He promised to give away his new EP for free for fans who pledge to vote this coming November.
Though the messages on There’s Alot Going On focus on rather positive messages and important social issues, this became momentarily overshadowed when a recent freestyle and photo sparked rumors of a possible beef with long-time friend Chance The Rapper.
During the freestyle, Mensa hinted at beefing with people he “used to be cool with” and on Instagram both he and Chance were spotted sharing photos of them sitting next to Jay Z and Beyoncé. The only, very obvious difference was that in Mensa’s now-deleted version, Chance was completely blocked out of the photo.
When asked if he felt competition with Chance during a recent stop by Real 92.3 LA, he admitted that he does but that “competition is healthy.” He later went on to say, “I know beef can get all complicated and things get twisted up here, but I really pride myself on, my entire life, having been a real straight up dude to everybody around me…I don’t do my people dirty. If somebody was wanting to beef with me, they wouldn’t have all that much ammo. They would have to start digging and making things up, ’cause i just keep it really, really, really real with my guys. The people that I move with and do business with, they would testify that I’m 100 with mine.”
