It's only been a few days since The Weeknd released his latest album Starboy. The album is already expected to reach the number one spot on the Billboard charts. This seems very possible and pretty much inevitable considering it has now been reported that The Weeknd recently broke Spotify's record for most streams in a single day.
Last November, Justin Bieber set a new record for Spotify by racking up 36 million plays in just one day on November 23, 2015. Spotify is reporting that another Canadian recently broke that record this weekend, but has yet to share the official numbers. All 18 tracks from Starboy are currently climbing up Spotify's Global Top 50 chart. The album's title track sitting at the top currently sits at the top with over 4 million streams.
Although Spotify has yet to share a full list of numbers for this new record, the company's global head of creative services Troy Carter recently expressed his excitement about The Weeknd's latest accomplishment. "We're proud to have partnered with The Weeknd, his management and Republic Records on a phenomenal album. We look forward to breaking even more records together in the near future."
