Pharrell has had a busy week promoting the Hidden Figures soundtrack but took some time to visit a New York City middle school and speak to some aspiring performers.
The "Happy" superstar surprised students at The Equity Project (TEP), a middle school in Manhattan, whilst they were performing his own Hidden Figures track "Runnin." The audience and those performing were visibly moved by Pharrell's appearance, with the Neptunes beat-maker saying after the performance that, “The emotional intensity that I saw on that stage, I don’t remember seeing before in my life,” adding that, "It was really special."
He also joined the young performers to do a rendition of another song from the Hidden Figures soundtrack, "I See A Victory." The concert was organized by Amp Up NYC, a non-profit collaboration between the Berklee College of Music and Little Kids Rock. Speaking about the organization, Pharrell also said, “It’s amazing because you’re hearing the next generation who are being mentored and being taught by a school whose sole purpose is to build a future one lesson at a time.”
