Brooklyn rapper Desiigner had quite the breakout year in 2016. His incredibly catchy single "Panda" not only caught the attention of Kanye West, but a remix of the track even landed on West's latest album, The Life of Pablo. This week we heard him link up with Mura Masa on another infectious record titled "All Around the World." However, Desiigner seems determined to receive more support from his own city.
During a recent stop at Power 105's morning show The Breakfast Club, Charlamagne emphasized that this was only Desiigner's first visit to the station. Which soon lead them into the conversation about his controversial "Fuck NY radio" tweet from earlier this year, which he soon deleted.
This is a pretty strong statement for any rising artist to make, but even more so for one hailing from Brooklyn. However, Desiigner finally had a moment to explain his reasoning for that statement saying, "because I want more play." After being asked if he feels that New York radio stations haven't supported his music as much as "Panda," Desiigner simply said, "Well, definitely."
Since releasing "Panda" at the top of last year, Desiigner has put out his New English mixtape, various collaborations, singles, and his gearing up for an album release this July. But the push from radio doesn't seem to be the same. Desiigner explained he always represents his city no matter where he goes, and would just like his local stations to show the same support. However he did admit that the tweet was deleted because he thought "that was a bitch moment."
