The Grammys are being celebrated for being more inclusive of the hip-hop community this year after the 2017 nominations were revealed this morning, but not everyone is happy. Vince Staples voiced his displeasure after Big Fish Theory was left out of the nominations. And now Q-Tip has shared a series of videos directed at the Grammy board for not nominating A Tribe Called Quest's critically acclaimed final album, We Got It From Here... Thank You 4 Your Service.
In the first of five Instagram videos uploaded on Tuesday afternoon, Q-Tip expressed frustration with the snub after being asked by the Grammys to perform in the wake of Phife Dawg's passing: "Y’all fuckin busted y’all ass to try and get us out there and perform! You think a ni**a wanted to fuckin' go out there and perform after I lost my man? We closed y’all show and we don’t get no fucking nominations? The last Tribe album? My man is gone! We been doing this shit for fucking years! Y’all ni***s don't fuckin' recognize."
Acknowledging this year's relatively culturally diverse nominations compared to previous years, he continued, "Y'all think it's some sort of caveat because this is the first time that no white man was nominated in no major categories and shit? We were the most black cultured group out. That's all we stood on. That's what we represented. This fuckin' album we just dropped. This last Tribe album. It stands with everyone else's shit that's up there. I don't give a fuck. I'm sick of y'all Grammy ni**as, man. You get us to get out there and fuckin' perform last year, and y'all don't get us no nominations?"
""It's the last fuckin' Tribe album and y'all ni**as don't give us no nominations?" he continued. "Y'all ain't even give Bob Marley a fuckin' Grammy. Marvin only got one. Jimmy ain't got none. Y'all ni**as is corny. Fuck y'all Grammy ni**as. Fuck y'all [...] I'm tired of biting my tongue all the time and being nice and shit. Yes, I'm hot. Get off my lawn. Whatever."
