Lee Perry – “Merry Christmas, Happy New Year”

Reggae madman Lee Perry had recorded every type of song under the sun by the time he finally released a Christmas song in the mid-1980s. A duet with singer Sandra Robinson, “Merry Christmas, Happy New Year” is a conventionally percolating reggae track accented with melodica that lyrically mines the holidays as a time that a couple could turn over a new leaf. Singing in harmony, Perry and Robinson conclude over and over, “Merry Christmas, Happy New Year … maybe we can try again.”
