    Spyder-D – “Ghetto Santa”

Like a lot of the first hip-hop artists, old school NYC MC Spyder-D cut a Christmas track, “Ghetto Santa,” which proved well-suited to his laid-back delivery and gentle humor. The track begins with a little kid exclaiming “Mommy mommy look here comes Santa Claus, and he’s black!” before Spyder-D proceeds to inhabit this character for two verses. Ghetto Santa doesn’t just “grant your wishes,” he also helps out around the house, doing dishes, paying bills, feeding the dog, bringing a turkey, etc. And as the best Santas have always been, Ghetto Santa was hip to then-contemporary toys like Thundercats.
