The Ying Yang Twins – "The Ying And The Yang Of The Holidays"

Released two days before Thanksgiving 2008, The Ying And The Yang Of The Holidays came out long past the Ying Yang Twins’ sell-by date; it’d been over three years since their last hit, “Wait (The Whisper Song).” Yet this four-track EP was a good faith effort. On “Sleigh Ride,” the Twins unexpectedly go positive, addressing Santa as follows: “This year, I hope I’m on your Christmas list. It ain’t my birthday but can I have a Christmas wish? I wish some people would really stop the violence, and in the ghetto, kids rarely ever smiling.” “Deck Da Club,” meanwhile, sets “Deck The Halls” in a strip club: “Deck da club with piles of money, fa la la la la, la la la la…” It helps that the beats here sound about like what would play in an Atlanta strip club around Christmas time.
