Pitchfork is too powerful.
Consolidation of power can get dangerous. And, like it or not, it's impossible to deny that Pitchfork has a lot of the power in indie music right now. Not only capable of launching or sinking an artist's career, P4K has become so definitive that it can define the fundamental trends in what's considered "good" or "bad," and there's no shaking that kind of influence. Although we don't always agree with the site's opinions, we do have to admit that if someone is going to have this much control over the indie scene, we're glad it's these guys. Pitchfork is pretty trustworthy, hires some very talented writers, and introduces us to a lot of good new music. Still, a monopoly on taste makes us a little nervous.
