Jagjaguwar, sometimes stylized as JAG for short, is an independent rock label based in Bloomington, Indiana. The curiously odd name comes from a Dungeons & Dragons character name-generating program, because that's the second best place to get your moniker if the Wu-Tang name-generator is down for maintenance. JAG's inception was one driven by neccessity. Founder Darius Van Arman had some friends who were in a band named The Curious Digit. They'd recorded an album, but didn't have a label to release and promote it. Deciding that it was best to have any label attached to the project rather than none, Van Arman launched JAG.
Bombay Aloo, The Curious Digit's debut album, was meant to be the label's only release, but after seeing and loving a band called Drunk, Van Arman courted the group to release their new record through his recently established operation. JAG took off from there and now represents the likes of Bon Iver, Dinosaur Jr, Foxygen, Okkervil River, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, and Sharon Van Etten.
