Album: Cozmik Why you should listen: You want some young blood
Jay-Z is getting old. It happens. One criticism of his new album is that he sounds tired. Not like he's about to fall asleep, but Jay-Z isn't exactly reinventing himself with Magna Carta Holy Grail. If you're looking for some music from a guy who sounds fresh, check out another New York City rapper who's a little newer to the game. His name is Dillon Cooper, and his new mixtape is Cozmik. Without getting too experimental or of-the-moment, Dillon raps over beats that will appeal to hip-hop heads who grew up with an appreciation for '90s-style rap, but he does it with an abundance of youthful energy and the natural ability to match.
