Artists help each other thrive
This is not just aimed at the competitive, combative nature of hip-hop, which sees cities or regions feel a sense of competition rather than collaboration (because just in London there is the same intense rivalry between different areas), but more at the fact that success for a band or artist from a certain country is generally enjoyed and supported by their peers. In America the sales figures of Lady Gaga and Katy Perry, or Kanye West and 50 Cent are big news, and when artists drop albums at the same time it is seen as competition, with a winner and a loser. In Europe, if two popular albums drop and they both do well it's seen as a positive for both artists, and any band that manages to "crack" America is seen as a point of pride in their country.
Maybe Europeans are just nicer people.
