    The Beat Reporter

With the internet in full effect, mashing out boundaries and tearing down borders, it's kind of crazy that the local critic still exists. But they do, and if you need to know about something going on in their city, town, or corner of the universe, you need to go through them.

The beat reporter is the critic and journalist covering hyper-local music. They cover music in the prehistoric way people did in the Stone Age before the Internet—by physically going to clubs, watching a band play in front of 30 people, and then writing a thing about it that maybe 500 people will read. When the artists that they know personally start to get traction, they’re quick to let you know they discovered them, and that you heard it here first, in the Ft. Lauderdale alt-weekly paper!
