    OKAY-KAYA - "Damn, Gravity"

New Jersey native OKAY-KAYA’s “Damn, Gravity” is a beautifully sparse breakup track with haunting lyrics and a dark, echoing guitar riff. The production draws an immediate parallel to The xx, which makes sense given that the track was produced by Rodaidh McDonald: he's worked with The xx, as well as similarly brooding artists like Sampha and King Krule. The song is about an ex-boyfriend who, in OKAY-KAYA’s words, “kept bringing me down.” In this light, the song seems a little more whimsical, though it’s clear that her relationship with “this boy of a man” did not end on happy terms.
