Azealia Banks is something like the updated, female version of what Spank Rock was. She’s got R-rated, sexually charged lyrics, a rapidly rising buzz, and her choice of production leans more towards house music than rap beats. She calls herself a “rap bitch,” but she’s also a classically trained performance artist, so while questions of authenticity will probably swirl once she officially blows up, for now she’s undeniably cool, so get familiar. Here’s her latest track, “Liquorice.”
And in case you were wondering, Mumford and Sons approve.
