Buke & Gase (formerly Buke & Gass) are best known for their DIY aesthetic – they both play invented instruments, the baritone ukelele and bass-guitar hybrid, that lend the duo their name. They made their own instruments and stage equipment, and the music has an individual spin that reflects how unique the band is. The sound ends up going all over the place, from folk to rock to psychedelic with a lot of stops in between, but “Misshaping Introduction” is a little more restrained than usual – featuring singer Arone Dwyer’s voice fluttering low in the mix over a muscular guitar and horns track. It’s the first song released as a part of a digital-only EP called Function Falls, out in September in support of an upcoming tour with Deerhoof.
