We previously let you hear a taste of his forthcoming Orbits album (which drops on the 3rd of December via Civil Music), and today Starkey gave away a sick leftover from the project entitled “Recoil.” While the Orbits album is freer overall, with harder tracks sandwiched between more melodic, atmospheric tunes, this is more of Starkey’s heavier bass-infused sound. It comes off like a futuristic take on the Trap of today, but the vocal sample that becomes part of the tune’s core (as well as the synths and other melodies) really sets this apart from a standard “trunk rattler” that typifies most of the genre. It also plays heavily on the science fiction-loving aspect of Starkey’s productions overall. Like the androids have just landed on Earth – but in Atlanta, and are adapting to the music of the Trap.
