It’s hard to figure out how to classify singer/producer Brolin exactly. While his gorgeous “Another Year” bears some similarity to songs by artists like Youth Lagoon and Bayou, the track feels organic and sparse in a way that places it worlds away from the bass-y concerns and modern production of the bedroom electro-soul revolution. “Another Year” is quieter, never breaking beyond a sort of three and a half minute whisper, save for the invasion of crowd noise–a properly unsettling addition that cuts through the ache with an air of anxiety. It’s a beautiful invitation to a would-be lover and friend.
