New Anticon signees Young Fathers (the trio of Alloysious Massaquoi, Kayus Bankole, Graham “G” Hastings, hailing from Nigeria and Liberia and currently making their home in Edinburg) deliver “Sister,” an intriguing first track from their debut with the historically iconoclastic label.

The group cuts the figure of a more digestible Death Grips, with impassioned, intelligent rapping atop a distinctive beat–militant drums, buzzing bass, and a chanted mixture of pidgin English, Yoruba, and gibberish. The video–a mixture of performance footage in dingy basements and news clips, spliced together with jarring cuts–adds a haunting visual layer to the music.
