The surprising thing about much of the music coming out of Nordic countries is how bright and warm it sounds—electronically driven pop music is plentiful, but much of it fails to capture the cold, dark nature of the place it comes from. Finnish duo Redder, comprised of Frans Saraste and Vesa Hoikka, utilizes soft but soulful vocals with sparse electronic production in a way that feels brisk and icy, drawing from electronic, soul, folk, and trip-hop for a unique style that sounds great now, and will surely sound even better once winter sets in.

The duo’s Border/lines EP comes August 19.
