Rising softly out of silence, “If I,” the second single from UK-based singer Blooms, never moves too much above a pretty simmer, dramatic in its way without being overblown. It is a fitting piece in a project the singer describes as detailing a relationship “from lust to love to letting go,” here questioning a life alone, away from a certain unnamed lover, with an almost unsettling restraint. Pretty and pained, “If I” makes the most of Blooms’ breathy vocals and skittering, expansive production from Sacred Animals.
