In a musical landscape where blogs and Hype Machine dictate much early adoption, it’s become increasingly common to be introduced to producer or musician through remixes. So it goes with New York producer deepspace, an anonymous newcomer (surprise!) who puts sparse, moody spins on songs by up-and-coming Brooklyn counterparts Tei Shi and Yellerkin. deepspace turns the former’s “Sickasfuck” into a sort of icy, bizarro “Royals,” straight-ahead and skeletal until an excellent synthesizer breakdown. The latter band’s “Vines” gets a slightly different treatment, pretty and distant, emphasizing a certain sadness in singer Adrian Galvin’s voice.

Listen to both remixes below and, if you’re in New York, check out Tei Shi and Yellerkin at The Studio at Webster Hall next Wednesday April 30th.
