Oh my lord.

Praise be to Jamie xx and Young Turks and Annie Mac for premiering this on radio and steel drums and raving and the UK dance music scene and everything and anything else that caused this song to come in to being. Jamie xx was already having a great year, stunning us with the subtle beauty of “Girl” and “Sleep Sound” (not to mention the wonderful video) and working on the third The xx album in Marfa, Texas, but now we have this.

Jamie xx’s blindingly good new tune, “All Under One Roof Raving,” is enough to make you forget everything for six minutes, and simply get lost in an auditory journey through British dance music via a brilliantly stitched together collection of vocal samples, shape-shifting percussion, and those lush steel drums. Introducing the tune for its first play on radio, Jamie said:

I made All Under “One Roof Raving” whilst on the tail end of another year on the road with The xx. I was missing life in London and trawling through any music and videos that reminded me of home. One in particular I found very inspiring, Mark Leckey’s Fiorucci Made Me Hardcore. I made this track in order to play out back home as I knew the year to come would be spent largely in the UK, DJing and making my own album. It serves as a reminder, not to take any time for granted at home or away.

I first heard this track opening a Jamie xx DJ set in April and knew it was special straight away. Since then I’ve played it literally hundreds of times—it just doesn’t get old and is without a doubt my favorite song of the year so far. Just as the song was made as Jamie was missing London, it makes me—an Englishman living in NY—proud of my home country’s vibrant dance music culture and happily reminisce on the times I did spend raving (all under one roof) with my friends.
