Some music is all about reinvention. Jungle’s a good example of this, drawing inspiration from classic sounds, but reimagining and expressing them in new ways. It’s something familiar, yet altogether refreshing. English artist Iain Woods does this in the strangely sentimental “Smoke.” It’s reminiscent of songs that your parents would lull you to sleep to; the mellow instrumentation and Woods’ soft, soulful vocals sound as if they are from another time, yet it’s recognizably modern.
“Smoke” appears on Iain Woods’ debut album, which seems to draw inspiration from almost every genre imaginable of past decades. Listen to “Smoke,” as well as album highlight “Fiend,” below.
