Ghost Loft is Los Angeles-based artist Danny Choi, and he’s made his mark with remixes for The Neighbourhood, Little Daylight, and Janine and the Mixtape. But songs like “The Otherside” hinted that Choi had some original song ideas of his own.
On his four-song Chocolate Haze EP, he brings these ideas to life for a cohesive project that ushers pop influences of the past into a modern space with bold production. Drawing from The Beatles and more current Britpop inspirations like Blur, this project feels modern, but it avoids the hazards of sounding too current. Songs like “Phonograph” and “The Rolling Man” would work fine if they were stripped down to just guitar or piano, but it’s the production that gives Ghost Loft’s music its signature sound.
