In internet time, Yung Lean feels like he’s been gone for an eternity. We’ve only gotten a handful of tracks from Swedish king of sad rap this year, with his most recent track coming in the form of a “Crystal Clear Ice” back in July. As previously said, that’s a long time on the internet timescale. Thankfully, Yung Leandoer has returned today with a low-key, but surprisingly hypnotic track produced by fellow Swedish artist CadyCutThroat, who also produced “Fd Up.”
“Taipei” takes a break from the usual glacial synthscapes Lean usually works with in favor of a uncharacteristically whimsical beat, complete with a memorable melody drifting in the background. With Lean’s mumble-rap approach in place in conjunction with his sometimes nonsensical but hilarious lyrics, “Taipei” is a light, but enjoyable track capable of reiterating what makes Lean such an interesting figure. It also features Lean calling himself “extra fast like Sonic,” which is, of course, pretty neat.
