In an effort to create more original content and to keep up with the competition, Spotify has released two new programs for their listeners: Singles and Live. For Singles, the streaming service will launch a new batch of singles every Wednesday from your favorite artists, featuring the artist's own track and a cover.

For its first installment, Spotify has released music from 20 artists including John Legend, Tove Lo, D.R.A.M., and more. D.R.A.M.'s pair of songs features a wonderfully stripped down version of his own record "Cash Machine" and his contribution to Chance The Rapper's Coloring Book, "Special."

According to Forbes, Spotify built a recording studio in its New York City office in order to properly support Singles. The studio will also be used for Spotify's new Live program.

Live is to Singles as artists will be recording live renditions of their songs at the office. "Powerlisteners" and "superfans"—identified as such based on their listening behavior—will be invited to attend these recordings, facilitating yet another way for fans and artists to connect. Spotify Live will completely replace Spotify Sessions.
