You might have missed it, I certainly did, when Cults told Spinner that they were planning on recording a hip-hop interpretation of their debut album in the form of a mixtape. Which seems weird, because Cults makes 50’s-inspired indie music that’s whimsical, beautiful and affecting in ways that most hip-hop is most certainly not. Everyone seemed to have forgotten about the project until now, when a remix of the album track “Bad Things” surfaced with a feature from none other than the reigning champ of gangsta rap, Freddie Gibbs. Suddenly, the idea of a Cults hip-hop album doesn’t sound weird at all. It kind of sounds like the greatest thing ever.
