It’s been a while since we’ve heard from Emay. After running through these two tracks, though, it’s clear that his skills have not been dulled by the time spent off the blogosphere. The flow is refreshingly off-kilter, but not too weird that it detracts from any of the content – Emay is the kind of rapper I never find myself drifting off to and letting the lyrics fade into the background, I’m inevitably paying attention to what he has to say. The beats are the same way; weird, jagged, tough to digest. But despite the complete lack of pop appeal to these instrumentals they’re strangely hard not to nod along to. I, for one, am glad to have this dude back on the radar.
His first full-length project, Adam, is due out in December/January.
