As weird as this may sound, think of it this way: both Lana Del Rey and Kurt Cobain had struggled with their sudden fame at one point. LDR covered one of Nirvana‘s better known songs, “Heart-Shaped Box,” last night in Sydney, Australia to a crowd that was more than pleased with her song selection.

While the fan-filmed video cuts off early, you get a good enough taste of her take on the In Utero single, as she removes the grunge sound and injects some gangster Nancy Sinatra flair into it. Though some may question the sincerity of the song choice, Del Rey had once mentioned how much the song meant to her, stating that she “really related to [Cobain’s] sadness.”
