Kanye West’s been at the eye of the media storm as of late. It seems as if with every new day also comes a new interview from Kanye, and fair, as it appears that he’s got a lot on his mind right now. But not everyone’s been on board with some of his opinions that, more often than not, favor the side of extreme.

Despite his polarizing ideas, Def Jam co-founder Russell Simmons believes that Kanye is on the right track. Shared through his site, Global Grind, are his thoughts and reflections on Kanye then and now. Simmons attempts to rationalize Kanye’s behavior, explaining that the rapper’s madness is the type of “mad that keeps you up at night, knowing that if you fall asleep, you are wasting time […] It is a mad-scientist kind of mad. One who wants to uplift his people to the top of the mountain, so in unison, they can chant from the top of their lungs, ‘No One Man Should All That Power!'” It’s an interesting read, considering Russell Simmons’ influence in the industry, as well as Kanye’s recent outburst on Sway In The Morning.
