Last December to celebrate Billboard’s “Women in Music” issue, the magazine hosted a luncheon where it honored Pink, Janelle Monáe, and Julie Greenwald and named Monáe Rising Star of the Year. During a particularly touching moment, Scottish synth-pop band CHVRCHES took to the stage to perform Monáe’s breakout hit “Tightrope” with Lauren Mayberry nervously explaining that she’d spoken to Janelle about the cover and regretted not asking her, “Don’t hate it.” As Monáe grooves along from the audience, the band launches into a show-stopping rendition of “Tightrope” giving the high-energy funk song more of a slowed down electronic feel with synth textures.

Unfortunately, no one tackled the Big Boi verse. But, hey, that’s what Coachella and Governors Ball are for.
