Yesterday, Taylor Swift released “Shake it Off,” the first single from her upcoming album 1989. The accompanying video showcases a variety of dance styles, from ballet to twerking. In the twerking scene, the accompanying dancers appear to be mostly black. In the ballet scene, they appear to be mostly white.
Twitter blew up in response to the video, with some excited over the fact that Taylor Swift seems to be parting ways with country, and others a bit more critical of her new single and video. A major criticism going around is that Swift’s new video perpetuates racial stereotypes, and one person who has been outspoken is Earl Sweatshirt, who made his opinion known in a concise series of tweets.
