For their first video of 2015, Montreal’s Stars have eschewed the genre’s typical glamour and bravado in favor of a considerably more pragmatic approach. “Trap Door,” one of the singles off of their 2014 album No One Is Lost, is the first song off the album to get visuals, and the reasons for this approach are, unusually, described in the video.
The band takes fans inside the decision-making process behind promoting music, demonstrating how sometimes, commercial considerations have to take priority. Once they’ve determined that “Trap Door” is indeed the song with enough momentum to warrant a video, they film said video—a simple, black and white shoot of the band performing the song for a raucous crowd.
The energetic video also functions as a trailer for their current U.S. tour. Check out the dates here.
