Producer Young Guru, best known for his collaborations with Jay and Bey, discussed the prodigious couple during a panel on the arts held at MIT recently. Speaking about Jay Z, the beatmaker talked about Jay’s flair for storytelling without sacrificing the facts.
“A lot of rappers lie,” he told the moderator. He said that Jay’s early work was special because it had “a lot of really good drug dealer talk,” but it “comes from a really honest place.”
Guru threw some mild shade at other rappers, calling out Jadakiss specifically for his line “I need the scale they weigh the whales with” [sic]. “No you don’t,” he said to the absent Jada. “You don’t have that much cocaine.”
