Ever since Zayn Malik dramatically left superstar pop group One Direction earlier this year, he’s sparked a whirlwind of attention, adopting a bad-boy attitude far removed from his squeaky clean pop past. He’s been throwing some serious shade on Twitter, arguing with Calvin Harris about streaming, and he’s also received praise for departing One Direction, receiving support from the unlikeliest of people in the form of Tyler, The Creator.
It’s clear that Zayn has become a divisive artist since leaving One Direction, outgrowing his roots and looking to achieve more as a solo artist. Drake is said to have inspired the solo material that he’s been working on, leading many to anticipate what Zayn is to release outside of One Direction. Well, anticipation will soon rise for his debut solo album once again, with a key writing and producing partner of Frank Ocean giving some pretty high praise to the ex-boyband member.
James Ryan Ho, bka Malay, is a record producer with a number of high-profile records under his name, particularly Frank Ocean’s debut studio album, Channel Orange. Frank worked with Malay on Orange, with Malay getting writing and producing credit on 13 of the album’s 17 tracks. Malay took to Twitter earlier this week to give high praise to Zayn, whom he’s been working with. Malay called Zayn, “pure genius. An artists’ artist.”
To receive such high praise from someone who played such an integral role in the making of Channel Orange is a big endorsement. Consider us intrigued for Zayn’s upcoming debut. P.S. Could you perhaps update us on what Frank has been up to, Malay? July ended a while back now, and we’re starting to get a bit worried.
