When The New York Times recently published their abrupt interview with Nicki Minaj, many of her quotes began swirling around the internet. Within the interview, Nicki finally discussed her interaction with Miley Cyrus at the VMAs, explaining that if Miley wants to embrace (or appropriate) black culture she “should also want to know what affects us, what is bothering us, what we feel is unfair to us.”
While many people agreed with Nicki’s comments, Azealia Banks felt quite the opposite—claiming that Nicki didn’t feel any need to previously speak on cultural appropriation “until she became a victim.” Before the VMAs, Nicki had tweeted to say that she wasn’t nominated for Video of the Year because of her body type. However, neither of the comments Nicki made via Twitter or during her recent interview sat well with Azealia.
