UPDATE 10/17/2015, 12:38: Burial’s label Hyperdub took to Twitter to dispel the news. Hyperdub boss Kode9 backed up the tweet in an email to the Fader explaining, “Burial has never performed live or DJed, was not at Unsound, and has no plans to play anywhere in the future.”
The notoriously reclusive and undeniably excellent Burial does not have a history of public appearances. It was strange enough when we got a glimpse of the artist’s face when he dropped a fire selfie last year, but to think he would ever play live was inconceivable.
And maybe it still is. But there were numerous reports of a Burial sighting at Poland’s Unsound festival, where a hooded DJ started playing bits of Burial during an ambient set. No one’s been able to definitively confirm or deny the reports—it could have been Burial affiliate Kode9, who has done this sort of thing before, or as one Twitter user suggested, it just as easily could have been Flo Rida.
