Pharrell stopped by Power 106 Los Angeles where he was on the Cruz Show and talked about how he always wanted to work with Eminem, explaining his son’s name Rocket, and working with Missy Elliott on her latest comeback single “WTF (Where They From).”

There is an interesting connection between “WTF” and Trayvon Martin. “The voice that you hear on the track that is very consistent, that’s a girl by the name of Rachel Jeantel. She’s the girl that Trayvon called when he was trying to call for some help,” Pharrell explained. “She did an interview on Piers Morgan and I chopped that up.” Pharrell cut some money for Jeantel for the sample so that “if college is in her future she now has the means to do it.”

On the show, Pharrell was asked if he had a bucket list of artists he wanted to work with and he responded, “I always wanted to work with Eminem and we came very close to working.” Pharrell produced a track for Eminem “and for whatever reason we just never got a chance to get back. It was the track that eventually became ‘Wait A Minute’ for Ray J.”

Pharrell also explained why he named his son Rocket. “We wanted to name him after a man made machine meant to fly or propel,” he said. “Also in respect to Stevie Wonder’s ‘Rocket Love,’ Herbie Hancock’s ‘Rockit,’ and Elton John’s ‘Rocket Man.'”
