The RIAA changed their certification standards, so now streaming data is factored into when an album can be declared gold or platinum. Because of this change, a bunch of albums were named platinum today, like Big Sean’s Dark Sky Paradise, Wale’s Ambition, and Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp a Butterfly.

That last one is apparently a point of contention for Top Dawg Entertainment CEO Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith, who isn’t down with what he feels are handouts from the RIAA. Over two tweets, he wrote, “we don’t stand behind this @RIAA bs. ole skool rules apply, 1 million albums sold is platinum.until we reach that #, save all the congrats. no cheat codes 2 platinum… #TDE”

To Pimp A Butterfly was released on March 15, 2015 via Top Dawg Entertainment, and as of January 13, the album had sold 788,000 copies.
