UPDATE: Grimes will not appear on A$AP Ferg’s new album as was originally reported.

A$AP Ferg’s sophomore album Always Strive And Prosper was originally expected to release earlier this year. Though his lead single “New Level” with Future continues to heat up the charts, an official release date has yet to be announced. Ferg recently revealed new details about what we can expect from his forthcoming album—making it seem fair to assume that the album release is drawer closer. In a recent interview with Stereogum, Ferg reveals explained the process behind Always Strive And Prosper.

This new album features a wide range of guest appearances—presumably creating a sound that will reach bigger audiences than his previous work. Always Strive And Prosper features appearances from Missy ElliottScHoolboy Q, and Chris Brown. It also receives production from Skrillex, Clams Casino, Lex Luger, Stargate, and DJ Khalil.

Ferg explained exactly how some of these unexpected features came about, admitting that they all seemed to happen organically for him. “All my features just happened,” said Ferg. “[At first] I didn’t have any features on it. Just to get a well-rounded album, I wanted to get guests and friends.”

“Strive,” a Missy Elliott collaboration, came together after Ferg received a phone call from Missy’s cousin extending an invite to Timbaland’s studio to meet Missy. With Ferg establishing genuine relationships before creating new music, it seems safe to assume these new collaborations, as well as the new album will have been well worth the wait.
