Kanye West’s The Life of Pablo starts on an incredible high with Chance The Rapper, Kirk Franklin, The-Dream, and Kelly Price delivering the gospel on “Ultralight Beam.” Chance’s verse is the first rapping we hear on the album, and he kills it.
Since appearing on Saturday Night Live to perform “Ultralight Beam” with Kanye West, Chance has featured on songs by Macklemore and Hundred Waters, come out at a Justin Bieber show, and performed on Jimmy Kimmel with Snakehips and Tinashe. Last night, he was in Raleigh, NC for a show, and, after some encouragement from the crowd, performed “Ultralight Beam.”
YouTube user 8Djenni explains how it went down in the description of her video, which you can watch above:
“The crowd started chanting ‘ultralight beam’ during the part of the setlist where Chance performs all his feature verses and he said something along the lines of, ‘I appreciate the sentiment… But that song actually belongs to another artist, and it would be kind of weird if I were to perform it at a show for the first time ever at… Raleigh… North Carolina…’ And then he did it. IGH!”
Chance performs tonight at The Fillmore in charlotte, NC, and on April 8 in Chicago to celebrate independent radio.
