After the release of The Life of Pablo, Kanye West declared that his album would never be on Apple Music. “You can only get it on TIDAL,” he tweeted. This led to a huge amount of illegal downloading of the project, and it left us wondering about physical releases.
In the past, Kanye has put great care into making sure his physical releases were works of art themselves, with extra inserts and striking packaging. Today, he’s back on Twitter to make another announcement: no more CDs.
Digital sales are overtaking physicals, but CDs still dominate the physical market, so cutting them out of the picture completely is a pretty bold move for an artist as popular as Kanye West.
But this still leaves one more question: what about vinyl?
