It’s all in the name.

The “IDK” in Maryland rapper Jay IDK’s moniker isn’t a confession that he doesn’t know what’s going on. He knows exactly what his mission is and it’s spelled out in those letters. They stand for “ignorantly delivering knowledge.”

Telling tales of the street from a different perspective than you might expect from someone who spent time behind bars as a teenager (he calls himself a “socially conscious artist”), Jay IDK hopes to infuse the world of hard-edged, trap-inspired hip-hop with lyrical depth.

That attitude comes through clear on “Mentality,” a song that dances the line between indulgent street anthem and thoughtful self-reflection. Then Jay switches up the mood on the can’t-miss B-side “Somebody” which features funky production from The Social Experiment’s Nate Fox (alongside Noo$e and Jay IDK himself).
